چکیده
Background Participation in the National Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) can improve individual health through reduced risk of type 2 diabetes and save healthcare system substantial medical costs associated with a diagnosis its complications. There is less evidence outcomes cost savings fully digital delivery DPP. Methods This study assessed 13,593 members who provided an initial weight subsequently achieved various loss engagement during their participation Analyzed data included both complete observations missing imputed using maximum likelihood estimation. Findings include members' behavioral correlates literature-based cost-savings estimate achieving three mutually exclusive or benchmarks: ≥5% loss, >2% but <5% completion ≥4 educational lessons. Results 11,976 (88%) after months participation, enabling calculation nadir. Considering data, 97% maintained lost weight. Using for these calculations, 32.0% ≥5%, 32.4% <5%, ±2%, 3.6% gained Members most nadir furthest into program (mean day = 189, SE 1.4) had longest active days 268, 1.4), particularly compared to 119, 3.7; mean 199, 4.9) (both p ≤ 0.0001). Modeled 1-year estimates ranged from $11,229,160 $12,960,875. Conclusions DPP clinical that confer important benefits savings.

Association of weight misperception with weight loss in a diabetes prevention program
BACKGROUND Weight misperception may have an impact on perceived risk and susceptibility for chronic diseases. Little has been reported on the long term effects of this misperception in chronic disease interventions, particularly in field of diabetes prevention. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between weight misperception and weight loss during a diabetes prevention pro...
متن کاملEffects of Weight Loss, Weight Cycling, and Weight Loss Maintenance on Diabetes Incidence and Change in Cardiometabolic Traits in the Diabetes Prevention Program
OBJECTIVE This study examined specific measures of weight loss in relation to incident diabetes and improvement in cardiometabolic risk factors. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS This prospective, observational study analyzed nine weight measures, characterizing baseline weight, short- versus long-term weight loss, short- versus long-term weight regain, and weight cycling, within the Diabetes Preve...
متن کاملTCF7L2 Polymorphism, Weight Loss and Proinsulin∶Insulin Ratio in the Diabetes Prevention Program
AIMS TCF7L2 variants have been associated with type 2 diabetes, body mass index (BMI), and deficits in proinsulin processing and insulin secretion. Here we sought to test whether these effects were apparent in high-risk individuals and modify treatment responses. METHODS We examined the potential role of the TCF7L2 rs7903146 variant in predicting resistance to weight loss or a lack of improve...
متن کاملThe cost-effectiveness of diabetes prevention: results from the Diabetes Prevention Program and the Diabetes Prevention Program Outcomes Study
BACKGROUND The Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) was a randomized, controlled clinical trial. It demonstrated that among high-risk individuals with impaired glucose tolerance, diabetes incidence was reduced by 58 % with lifestyle intervention and 31 % with metformin compared to placebo. During the Diabetes Prevention Program Outcomes Study (DPPOS), all DPP participants were unmasked to their tr...
متن کاملTranslating the Diabetes Prevention Program lifestyle intervention for weight loss into primary care: a randomized trial.
BACKGROUND The Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) lifestyle intervention reduced the incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) among high-risk adults by 58%, with weight loss as the dominant predictor. However, it has not been adequately translated into primary care. METHODS We evaluated 2 adapted DPP lifestyle interventions among overweight or obese adults who were recruited from 1 primary c...
